Settlement reached in renter income discrimination dispute

Long Island Housing Services has settled a case with apartment landlord Brookwood Communities and Campbird Management over income discrimination complaints. The organization accused the landlord of discriminating against individuals with Section 8 housing vouchers by imposing an illegal minimum income requirement. In the settlement, Brookwood will pay $16,000 to Long Island Housing Services and $12,000 each to two complainants as damages. Additionally, the landlord agreed to adopt non-discriminatory fair housing and source of income policies, provide employee training, and update its website to support fair housing laws.
