Seaford landlord settles income-source discrimination complaint

The Long Island Business News reported that Long Island Housing Services recently settled complaints of housing discrimination on the basis of lawful source of income against the owner of a 2-family home on Long Island.  The owner allegedly told testers posing as persons having Section 8 Housing Vouchers that Housing Vouchers were not accepted, and gave a tester without a Section 8 Housing Voucher instructions on how to apply for the property and stated that the property was still available.  This different treatment based on the protected class of lawful source of income is illegal housing discrimination protected under fair housing and human rights laws.
